  14.             The Shareware Version of the Farm Management Record Keeping Program 
  15.        is a full working set of programs as they relate to the cash accounting  
  16.        part of the farm business.  The programs will allow you to enter your
  17.        receipts and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. basis - however
  18.        your system operates.
  19.  
  20.             The program includes all of the modules necessary to make the 
  21.        entries, edit out any mistakes that might be made and were not 
  22.        identified while making the entry, print your reports, create a cashflow
  23.        file, and do enterprise listing if you desire.
  24.  
  25.             Some of the differences between this version and the registered
  26.        version are identified in the text that follows.

  28.             PRINTER CODES:  Some of the printouts require that your printer be
  29.                  set to operate in the 16-17 characters per inch mode while 
  30.                  other reports operate in the 10 characters per inch mode.
  31.  
  32.                  Shareware Version:  You are required to enter the proper code
  33.                       each time you wish to produce a report that requires the
  34.                       smaller print style.
  35.  
  36.                  Registered Version:  You will set up these codes one time into
  37.                       a parameter file and then the programs use the codes that
  38.                       are appropriate at the time of printing the report.
  39.  
  40.             DISK DRIVE DESIGNATIONS:  The programs require you to identify the
  41.                  destination and source of your data files.
  42.  
  43.                  Shareware Version:  You must enter the disk drive designation
  44.                       when prompted for it during the operation of the program.
  45.                       Floppy and Hard Disk Paths are not supported in that you
  46.                       are allowed to have your program disks in one area and 
  47.                       data in a different area that requires a path identifier
  48.                       in order that it be located.
  49.  
  50.                  Registered Version:  You may designate a different drive and
  51.                       drive path if you wish for your data source and 
  52.                       destination.

  80.             COLOR CAPABILITIES:  
  81.  
  82.                  Shareware Version:  No support is provided for changing the
  83.                       color in the program.
  84.  
  85.                  Registered Version:  If you have a color monitor, you may so
  86.                       designate that and your background color will change to
  87.                       a more pleasing blue rather than the normal black
  88.                       background.  (Future versions will probably allow you to
  89.                       select your own color combinations.)

  91.                  FARM/BUSINESS IDENTIFICATION and ENTERPRISE CODES: These
  92.             codes are used to allow you to help identify strengths and
  93.             potential weaknesses in your farm business.  There is a Enterprise
  94.             program which allows you to create a hard copy report whereby all
  95.             receipt items that were categorized into any given combination of
  96.             Farm/Business & Enterprise Code combinations are printed together
  97.             and then the same function is done for all expense items.  A number
  98.             of totals (such as total head, pounds, etc.) are also printed for
  99.             each combination.

  101.                  Shareware Version:  You have the capability of identifying 
  102.                       each item and categorizing it into any of 4 different
  103.                       Farm/Business Identification Codes and 12 different
  104.                       Enterprise Identification Codes.  This allows for 
  105.                       breaking a given item into any of 48 different 
  106.                       combinations.

  108.                  Registered Version:  Your number of codes have been increased
  109.                       to 30 for both the Farm/Business and Enterprise
  110.                       Identification functions.  With the increased codes, you
  111.                       now can break any given item in any of 900 different
  112.                       combinations.

  114.                  ADDITIONAL MODULES:  In addition to the modules that you have
  115.             as a part of the Shareware Version, the Registered Version will
  116.             provide you with additional modules to help you with other parts of
  117.             your farm accounting and business needs.

  119.                  These modules include:

  121.                  UTILITIES MODULE:   This module allows you to set up your disk
  122.                       drive locations and paths, your printer codes, and color.

  129.                  PARAMETERS MODULE:  This module allows you to change a number
  130.                       of the receipt and expense headings codes to better fit
  131.                       your own business operation.  In addition, this module 
  132.                       allows you to change the headings of all of the
  133.                       Farm/Business and all but two of the Enterprise
  134.                       Identification headings codes.

  136.                  INVENTORY MODULES:  There are three different inventory 
  137.             modules, livestock, crops and livestock and crop supplies, and
  138.             machinery, land and buildings modules.  These are designed to allow
  139.             you to track you inventories and also get a hard copy of those
  140.             inventories for use in your business.  The machinery, land, and
  141.             buildings module allows you to also track information such as
  142.             model and serial numbers, original purchase dates, original and
  143.             current value, etc. for better asset tracking.

  146.                  ANALYSIS MODULES:   There are four different analysis modules.
  147.             There are individual livestock and crop enterprise analysis 
  148.             modules, and two different farm analysis modules.  One of the farm
  149.             analysis modules is a stand alone module (as the livestock and crop
  150.             modules are) and the other farm analysis module interacts with your
  151.             summary data file and beginning and ending financial statements.

  153.                  DATA CONVERSION MODULE:  This module allows you to convert 
  154.             your Summary Data file from the previous year into a Cashflow File
  155.             that can be used for comparisons in the current year.  It also 
  156.             allows for farm/business and enterprise identification codes 
  157.             conversion between the Shareware and Registered Versions.

  159.                  FINANCIAL STATEMENT MODULE:  This module allows you to create
  160.             a financial statement for your business.  It also prints out some
  161.             of the more common financial ratios as they relate to your farm
  162.             business.

  164.                  FARMLOAN MODULE:  This module allows you to track your farm
  165.             loan activity.  It allows you to track who an individual loan was
  166.             originated with, the payment (principal and interest) record of 
  167.             that loan, the original terms (length and interest rate), purpose
  168.             and additional borrowings on that particular folio.

  170.                  The brief descriptions that have been provided are hopefully
  171.             adequate enough to allow a proper business decision.  It is the
  172.             hope of the author that the proper use of this software will 
  173.             enhance your ability to be successful in agriculture.  Virtually
  174.             no person "likes" to keep records; however, they are becoming 
  175.             increasingly important as lending agencies are becoming more
  176.             selective in their lending practices.

  212.                  This is the first try at the "Shareware" concept of marketing
  213.             of software by the author.  If it is reasonably successful, there
  214.             is a possibility that some of the many additional agriculturally 
  215.             related software programs that have been written by the author will
  216.             be released in a similar manner.
